Lot of 2, including CDV of Jefferson Davis, encircled by fifteen stars, likely symbolizing the fifteen slave-holding states at the start of the Civil War, and text reading, “The Right Man, In The Right Place. / Jeff. Davis. / Our First President.” With Quinby & Company, Charleston, SC backmark and inscription: “Jeff[erson Da]vis, / President of the Confederate States.” Also with salted paper photographic medallion, approx. 5.875 in. diameter, bearing the same portrait of Davis, possibly issued for Davis’ inauguration in Montgomery, AL in February of 1861.
