Anonymous orotone, 8 x 10 in., housed in period 12 x 13.75 in. walnut frame, with burled walnut mat and gilt liner. In this ca 1900-1910 portrait, an aged, but still dapper Cody wears his signature broad-brimmed hat, and sports a fashionably tied silk kerchief. While Buffalo Bill was photographed by commercial photographers hundreds of times, this is the only known image of him in an orotone format. Found in northern California.
Small chip in frame; small, scattered nicks in frame; otherwise excellent.
The physical condition of lots in our auctions can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration/repair. All lots are sold "AS IS," in the condition they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make no representation or warranty and assume no liability of any kind as to a lot's condition.
