Lot of 2. Washington, George (1732-1799). First President of the United States (1789-1797). Piece of white paper, 2.125 x 1.25 in., bearing two words ("Dear Sir,") written in the hand of Washington. Accompanied by an engraving by John Rogers (American, 1808-1888) after the Gilbert Stuart Lansdowne portrait (1796) of a standing Washington holding a sword, 4.75 x 7.625 in., New York, NY: D. Appleton & Co.
Paper with wear to edges and corners, with surface soil and minor staining. Print with toning, soiling, and areas of discoloration.
