Wool, approx. 60 x 100 in., machine-sewn flag with 31 double-applique stars of varying sizes, including one large central star. Rope hoist formerly with loops on the ends. Much of the sleeve through which the rope runs has worn away. This flag commemorates the State of California, and was used from 1850 to 1859.
Extensive mothing. Light toning of wool. a few stains on the stars.
