Comprising a double-side marrow scoop / spoon, by William Garret Forbes, with drop to bowl back, engraved to large bowl, “Marrow spoon owned by Henry Cruger/ Mayor of Bristol 1781," marked; a double-sided marrow scoop / spoon, by George W. Welsh, with drop to bowl back, engraved to large bowl, “Marrow spoon owned by Wm. C. Rhinelander, 1850,” engraved to handle with monogram and date, “R 1850,” marked; and a double sided marrow scoop / spoon, by maker “JW,” marked.

Henry Cruger, Jr. (1739-1827) was born into a wealthy New York merchant family, and is noted as serving in both the British Parliament and New York Senate, an unusual circumstance for the period. His politics often bridged the gap between English control and American independence, and ultimately he supported the latter, returning to New York in 1790, after a long time spent in England. He held a few positions during his time overseas, one notable role being the Mayor of Bristol, England in 1781.
William C. Rhinelander (1790-1878), also of New York City, inherited his father's successful sugar business, operating out of the Rhinelander Sugar House, originally built in 1763 by Henry Cuyler.
