The memorials inscribed, "Andrew McFarlan/ Died 17 July 1805," "Ann McFarlan/ Died 20 Oct 1809," and "Wm Henry McFarlan/ Died 20 Jany, 1813/ Aged 12 y. 11 m. 17 d.," worked with silk and chenille on a silk ground with watercolor and ink, framed.

Andrew McFarlan (1736-1805) was born in Scotland and immigrated to Schenectady, New York in the early 1760s. He became a salt merchant and community leader, a member of the local militia, and chairman of the committee of safety. He married Annatie Pieterse (1743-1809) of Schenectady in 1764. The couple lived at the corner of Church and Water Street and are buried in the Vale Cemetery.
