the base and chest probably associated or matched, the back boards of both having slightly varying finishes / color variations; refinished, with nicely consistent polished surface throughout; the base apparently altered and / or later, likely losing original legs, with later blocking to underside and bun feet added; occasional minor age splits to veneer; a couple losses to edges, with loss evident to front left-facing corner of top molding (some pieces detached but present in back); old loss to back corner of left-facing molding; loss / break to molding on front right-facing foot; interiors of drawers have been varnished; replaced brasses and escutcheons throughout, the upper section with former drill holes evident and later plugs / fill to veneer; some occasional patches to veneer evident; the upper right-most drawer missing lock; the base having no locks (no evidence of locks).
