The present work depicts Sculptor Chaim Gross (1902-1991) and his wife Renee. They were the parents of Mimi Gross (portrayed in Lot 50) who married Red Grooms in Maine in 1964. Grooms and Gross spent the summer of 1964 in Lincolnville, ME in a rented house in the Slab City neighborhood where Grooms painted Slab City Rendez-Vous.
Collection of Mrs. Sylvia Sass, Caldwell, New Jersey.
Acquired directly from the above.
Property from the Estate of Angela Gross Folk, New Jersey.
In overall very good condition with fresh colors throughout. The watercolor appears laid down to the undermat, itself sealed to the overmat via tape along all outer edges, which we chose to keep as is for the conservation of the work. As such, the extreme edges of the sheet are not visible, and we cannot spot any sign of repair or loss. Either way, the work appears untouched and presents very well. Framed under glass.
