Rabin and Krueger Gallery, Newark, New Jersey.
Acquired directly from the above.
Collection of Robert Gross, New Jersey.
By descent from the above.
Property from the Estate of Angela Gross Folk, New Jersey.
In overall fair condition. The sheet is affixed to a larger piece of board, on which the custome-made mat sits. For conservation purposes, it was decided to keep the work as is, although it was inspected unframed. This means we were not able to review the outer edges of the sheet. With severe creases along the bottom outer edge, and some losses at bottom center (which seem to have been adresses since the work is now laid down). Slight harline crease at center left, on the background and on the man's upper pants (relatively minor). Similar crease at center right, across the woman's bust. Slight discoloration at upper right, with light scratching on the woman's exposed cheek (which appears to be due to the artist's working method). We do not see any other sign of loss or repair elsewhere. With strong colors on the man's pants. The sheet is lightly toned.
The work is framed under glass. Given the work's flimsy and light frame, and the heavy Masonite board protecting the work verso, it would be our advise to consider a new frame.
