No place, July 24, 1758. Single sheet, 5 1/2 x 7 1/4 in. (139 x 184 mm) (sight). Autograph note, completely in the hand of Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut, Oliver Wolcott, as Sheriff, confirming receipt of payment from Reem Peck: "Received of Oliver Wolcott Sheriff three pounds nineteen shillings & 1d in lawfull money in part ye above execution by me," and signed by Peck below above attesting to payment; manuscript portion of the land transfer being paid for on verso. Creasing from old fold, separation along same repaired with tape; a few spots of loss repaired with paper. Unexamined out of frame, 12 x 14 in. (304 x 355 mm).

In addition to being a successful merchant and diplomat, Oliver Wolcott (1726-1797) was one of the few Signers of the Declaration to see substantial military combat. Serving as a general in the Connecticut militia, he fought at the Battle of Saratoga under Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold, and commanded the coastline defenses of his own state during William Tryon's raids of 1779.
