The Streeter Copy of the Rare First Edition of the History of America's Express Companies
New York: For Sale at the Express Offices Throughout the United States, 1858. First edition. 40 pp. According to the Streeter catalogue this copy lacks pp. (i) and (ii). From the library of preeminent American collector Thomas Winthrop Streeter, and with his book-plate on verso of front wrapper, and with his pencil notations on recto of same. Publisher's stiff printed wrappers, front wrapper chipped and starting, remnants of old repair along spine; old ink notations on front wrapper and scattered throughout text; old newspaper clipping about Stimson once tipped onto verso of front wrapper now loose; in orange cloth slip case and chemise. The Thomas W. Streeter copy of this very rare first edition on the history of the rise of America's express industry, featuring an account of express industry pioneer William F. Harnden. We cannot locate another copy of the first edition coming to auction since this very copy was sold in the Streeter sale in 1968.
