Note
In the 1967, Phoenix House was founded to help New Yorkers overcome substance abuse and addiction. Moving into a brownstone headquarters building at 164 West 74th Street, New York in the 1970s, the founding Board of Directors commissioned artist Bo Bartlett to paint a mural for the renovated Board Room. The subject was to be Phoenix House clients in treatment working on various in-house building renovation projects; the present lot served as one of Bartlett’s studies for the project. The organization continues to serve as a model for outpatient and residential treatment for those struggling with addiction.
