Of oval form with an American eagle and bannerette inscribed, "E Pluribus Unum" above a shield enclosing a splay of flowers, bears printed label, "H. Moog/ Atlanta" on verso.

This platter is from a service purchased and brought back to Salem, Massachusetts by prominent shipping merchant, Captain William Orne (1752-1815). He married Abigail Ropes Orne (c.1761-1813) in 1780. At the height of his trading career, Orne owned 35 vessels bringing silks, spices iron, hemp and other products from Canton, West Indies, Europe and Russia.
