The assumed line of descent: John Hinchman Stokes, MD, and Ann Evans Stokes, thence to their son John Hinchman Stokes, MD (1808-1873) and Tabitha (Jenkins) Stokes (1815-1884), thence to their daughter Anne Jenkins Stokes (1844-1903), thence to Anne's brother John Spencer Stokes, MD (1842-1868), although the engraved date "1884" falls outside his life dates. It may refer to the death date of their mother.
Presumably passed down through the family to the present consignor.
