Literature
J. Jonathan Joseph, Jane Peterson: An American Artist, self-published, Boston, 1981, p. 31 (illustrated).
Note
Peterson left Spain, where she was welcomed into the household of Joaquin Sorolla, to go to Egypt and Algiers to paint. The present work was executed during that period, and displays all the halkmarks of Peterson's style, resulting in a sparkling, sundrenched plein air impression. Following Sorolla's advice, the artist applies direct touches of bold color in broad strokes to capture the hot atmosphere, and joyous scene.
Provenance
Hirschl & Adler, New York, New York.
Collection of Charles and Virginia Bowden, San Antonio, Texas.
