Artist Biography

David Cressey was a multidisciplinary artist who is best known for his large-scale ceramic vessels. Born in Los Angeles in 1916, Cressey studied at the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received his M.F.A. Cressey went on to reach at UCLA, as well as at Utah State University, California State College, Long Beach, and Mount Saint Mary College, Los Angeles. He opened a studio in Venice, CA, after World War II, where he worked independently and in partnership with other ceramics companies. A recipient of the 2006 California Design Award, Cressey's work may be found in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Pasadena Art Museum, and many other institutional collections.
