28 in. x 35 in. (sight)Note
While this work bears an indistinct mark or signature, the subject matter and overall composition has a strong relationship to Junius Brutus Stearns' work, particularly his painting Washington on His Deathbed, dated 1851, part of his five-part Washington Series, in the collection of the Dayton Art Institute (1954.16). Stearns was known for his genre scenes, with figures assembled closely in dark interior setttings.
