Note

Charles Gentry married Eliza (Stagg) Gentry of Charles City County in Richmond City, Henrico County, Virginia on December 22, 1837. They had five children, including daughter Sarah Elizabeth Gentry, who married Robert Andrew Ladd in June 1876. Together, Sarah and Robert had a son named Robert Ashby Ladd (b. 1888), the man identified on the cardboard backing. This portrait may have been done around Charles and Eliza's wedding, circa 1835-1840.
