After an early 19th century woodcut, The New Jerusalem, watercolor and ink on wove paper, signed on verso, "Samuel Brenholtz," dated l.r., framed.
Note
Many versions of "The Many to Heaven and Hell or the New Jerusalem" were printed in the first third of the 19th century. A copy of the Montbeliard woodcut printed in the early 1800s-the inspiration for the present watercolor and ink drawing-can be found in the collection of the Library of Congress.
