Jerusha Crowell married Captain Arvin Baker (1804-1879) in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, 1833. Their first child, Franklin T. Baker was born on Nantucket later that year. The couple resided for many on Orange street and Captain Baker commanded several vessels from Nantucket and ran a packet from Nantucket to Boston. The child depicted with Jerusha, is probably their second child, Washington Irving Baker, (1838-1891). It was common for both girls and boys to wear coral beads and pink was then associated with boys. The child's hair is also parted slightly on the side. The Bakers had seven children. Their daughter, Louise Southard Baker (1846 -1896) was a poet, author, and temperance advocate and also became the first female minister of the North Congregational Church on Nantucket, ordained in 1880.
If not it may be Lydia Swan Baker who was born in 1836 and died at 13 months of age.
