The circular cup with slightly flared rim and vertical footring, the exterior carved in low relief with continuous cloud scroll bands on a fret ground, a pair of C-shaped handles extend from the rim to the base, carved and reticulated with "lingzhi" scrolls, the mottled beige and creamy-white jade with traces of dark brown, fine, high polish.
H: 2 7/8 in., W: 6 1/2 in.NOTE:
For an oval brush washer with similar ground of undulating continuous cloud-scrolls and similarly carved lingzhi heads, dated to the Song dynasty, from the Qing Court Collection in the Palace Museum, Beijing, see "The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Jadeware" (II), Hong Kong, 1995, p.134, no. 112.
