Note

Alexander Wilbourne Weddell, born in Richmond in 1876, served as the US Ambassador to Argentina from 1933-1939 and to Spain from 1939 to 1942. In 1923, he married Virginia Chase Steedman (b. 1874, Edina, Missouri). During their travels, the couple collected furniture and objects from many regions which they used to furnish their Richmond residence, called Virginia House. Composed of a salvaged English Tudor-era priory, the house was gifted to the Virginia Historical Society in 1929.
