Note The present painting depicts Prince Frederick Augustus, Duke of York, second and favorite son of George III and Queen Charlotte of England. Several versions of this portrait exist, the original supposedly sold at Sotheby's London, sale of July 4, 2013, lot 202. The popularity of the prince, the artist and the image itself explains the important number of copies in circulation, as shown by this painting, executed by the studio of the artist to supply the high demand.
