Contemporary full calf, red morocco spine label, stamped in gilt, rebacked, front board starting, corners worn; all edges trimmed; old ownership signature on front paste-down and recto of rear free endpaper; scattered spotting to text; in slip case and chemise. The first work in America printed on wove paper. As Thomas states in the advertisement printed in this volume, "The making of the particular kind of paper on which these Sonnets are printed, is a new business in America; and but lately introduced into Great Britain; it is the first manufactured by the Editor."
