Patricia "Tish" Hewitt was the great, great granddaughter of John Deere, founder of the company bearing his name. Her husband, William Alexander Hewitt, served as President (1955-1964) and Chairman (1964-1982) of Deere & Company of Moline, Illinois and as U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica from 1982-1985.

Provenance

Collection of William (1914-1998) and Patricia Deere (1925-1992) Wiman Hewitt, "Rondelay," Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.

For many years the figurehead was mounted to the gable of their Chadds Ford home.
