A cased half ship model of the S.S. Nigel (1903-1915) First half 20th century

Mounted in a mahogany and glass display case with mirrored back, together with later wood stand on cabriole legs, the case back with paper label listing the ship stats in French, metal plaque to front engraved, "S.S. Nigel/ Built By The Grangemouth and Greenock Dockyard/ Grangemouth/ For Messrs George Gibson & Co. Leith/ 1905."

Note

The S.S. Nigel was a British passenger/cargo steamer ship built in Grangemouth by Grangemouth & Greenock Dockyard, Co. in 1903. George Gibson & Co. was the presiding company that owned the vessel. At 1450 tons, the ship had capacity for 70 First Class passengers, and navigated the service route between Antwerp, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. In 1915, the ship was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Boulogne, France.
