For a 17th century Nepalese Bhairava mask of brass, see Pratapaditya Pal et al, "A Collecting Odyssey, Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art from the James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection", New York, 1997, p. 29, no. 25. Masks such as these were an important aspect of the annual Indrayatra ritual, whereby the devote would recieve a blessing in the form of beer from a drinking tube between the lips of this manifestation of Shiva.
