Co-founder of the firm of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis, William Schnader was a practicing attorney and had a remarkable career of teaching, legislative drafting. A brilliant student, he became a brilliant teacher at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Wharton, 1914 to 1922, while drafting the Workmen's Compensation Code of 1915 and The Philadelphia City Charter of 1919. He became Special Deputy Attorney General in 1923 to prepare legislation to modernize existing state codes in The State Administration Code of 1923 and 1929. In 1930 he was appointed Attorney General of the State of Pennsylvania and under preparation and guidance, The Banking Code, The Building and Loan Code, The Business Corporation Law, The Department of Banking Code, The Liquor Control Act and The Milk Control Board Law and The Nonprofit Corporation Law were passed. In the 1940s, Schnader worked tirelessly on the creation of the Uniform Commercial Code. He is frequently referred to as its "Father."
