Simpson served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania from 1918 to 1935. He was one of the founders of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and served as its President and Chairman of its Committee of Law Reform for more than 20 years. His treatise on federal impeachments in England and in the United States was recognized as authoritative on both sides of the Atlantic.
