Provenance: The Luther R. and Frances T. Zehner Collection.

According to entry of April 6, 1950, the mat was among a number of articles purchased by Zehner from Alice Howard: "Sweet Grass Mat from Saskatchewan, Canada. Given to Alice's mother (for Alice) by Love's War. She gave it to Alice about 1907 or 1908. Alice's mother's name was Two Horses."
