Crestrail continues to arms and tapering squared legs, the upper back with pierced carving and wood and brass marquetry panel, the arms with conforming pierced carving, inlaid seat rail, legs and stretchers, on original casters, pencil inscription to backrest muslin and stamp to bottom back rail: "49794."
H: 35 in.Showing the influence of E.W. Godwin in its form, this chair incorporates pierced carving, gilt incised lines, and wood and brass marquetry. The same marquetry pattern can be found on an armchair pictured in Doreen Bulger Burke et al.'s In Pursuit of Beauty: Americans and the Aesthetic Movement, New York: 1986, pg. 167, fig. 5.30.
