Of rounded rectangle form with hinged cover, the top with bright-cut engraved band to edge and central oval cartouche with monogram.
L: 3 1/4 in. Weight: 2 troy oz.Caton Decosta is listed in George Barton Cutten's Silversmiths of North Carolina 1696-1850,1973, pg 27. According to Cutten's entry, the opening of Decosta's jewelry and silversmith's shop in Raleigh was advertised in a local paper on June 1, 1809, with Decosta self-proclaiming himself to have been trained under "'the first masters in Europe, and having considerable experience in some of the principal Work-Shops in America.'"
