.30-06. 24" star gauged barrel. SN: 1231065 (Mfg. ca1921). Blued finish, smooth walnut pistol-gripped C-stock with dual reinforcement bolts and no grasping grooves. Bolt action internal magazine fed military rifle. Receiver marked in four lines: U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903 followed by the serial number. Barrel marked S.A./{Flaming Bomb}/9-29. No cartouche or "Circle-P" is present on the stock. An individually stamped S and 6 are present in the safety cut out. Features include a standard military ladder rear sight graduated to 27, and added Lyman adjustable peep receiver rear sight, a hooded front sight blade, sling and stacking swivels, and a checkered buttplate with no cleaning kit in the butt trap. A PJ O'Hare marked rear sight cover and front sight/muzzle cover are included as is a leather Pattern 1907 sling. A search of the Springfield Research Service serial number books did not find this particular gun, but a number of National Match 1903 rifles were found very close to this serial number.
Very good. Bore partly bright with some oxidation and frosting and strong rifling. Metal with some of the thinning and fading finish present. Markings remain clear in metal. Mechanically functional. Stock with scattered minor bumps, dings and surface scuffs and retaining some feathery grain texture.
