About .58 caliber. 39" octagonal barrel length. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish. Full walnut stock has a somewhat thick "Roman nose" style grip with carved cheek rest, and double incised lines to entire length of both sides of forearm. Fullstock flintlock American long rifle with semi buckhorn rear sight and brass mountain style blade front sight (sights possibly added at a later date). Stock has carved molding to ramrod throat, and attractive rococo c-scroll carved to left side of butt. Stock fittings include a brass forend cap, brass sideplate, faceted buttplate, a silver 8-pointed star to cheek rest, and a silver oval escutcheon marked with an H to top of wrist. Brass patchbox is pierced five times, with brass screws, and a Q-finial. Barrel appears to be signed G.Beighey or G.Brigbry (Possibly Beighey considering 18 families with the surname Beighey lived in Pennsylvania around 1880 according to Ancestry.com). Barrel is also marked with three sunbursts, two surrounding rear sight and one in front of front sight. Lock was pulled and is marked W.P.&Co. to backside, above marks that appear to be a horizontal and a vertical 3 or {Crown}/3. Touch hole is tapered. Item features double set triggers, a brass tip wood ramrod secured by two brass thimbles, and cloth wadding in patchbox. Item is with flint that does not appear original.
Good. Bore shows oxidation and some pitting throughout. Finish has sprinkled oxidation overall. There is oxidation around touch hole, but lock was pulled and interior molding is still in tact, item does not appear to have been converted to percussion at any point. Stock possibly replaced at some point as there are some light varnish losses to commonly handled areas, and mortise is relatively clean. Action will need work, hammer does not lock when cocked back.
