The writing box appears in overall fairly good condition. The box having a few small areas where the quills are broken and one area in the lower right corner on the lid of the box where the quills are lost. The interior appears in good condition, the leather writing surface is intact with just a few cracks in the leather. There is a minor split in the wood on the left hand side where the writing surface hinges. The metal element that keeps one of the compartments beneath the writing surface closed is bent out of shape, but the compartment is still able to open and close. Inlaid decoration is intact and attractive. Lacking a key to lock the box. Additional images are available upon request.
