1) Fair. Blade heavily oxidized with a dark patina. Markings remain legible. Blade with some scattered surface oxidation, freckled roughness and some scattered light pitting. Hilt with an uncleaned patina.
2) Good. Blade with a dull pewter patina and clear markings, showing scattered surface oxidation and some freckled surface roughness. Cutting edge with some minor nicks. Hilt with a rich untouched patina. Scabbard fair with repairs and damage to the leather and rather weak.
3) Good to very good. Blade partly bright with scattered oxidation and old oil residue along with some scattered discoloration and minor surface roughness. Hilt with an uncleaned patina. Scabbard about very good, showing moderate wear, scuffs and crazing but solid. Sword does not seat completely in the scabbard, being about .5" shy of fully seating.
