The 1971 May Day protests were a series of large-scale civil disobedience actions in Washington, DC, organized in protest against America's involvement in the Vietnam War. The protests, which began on 3 May and ended on 5 May resulted in the arrest of 12,000 people, the largest mass arrest in US history.
