This sandstone relief fragment features intricate hieroglyphic inscriptions, indicative of the era's refined artistry and religious devotion. The hieroglyphs, arranged in four columns and reading from right to left, include part of a royal cartouche and divine epithets such as “King of Upper and Lower Egypt, Per-netjer...” alongside references to major deities like Anubis and Re-harakhty. The text mentions Re-harakhty as "Lord of the southern Heliopolis," highlighting his significance and the locality's religious importance. A full translation of the inscription is available upon request.

Inspected under UV light and 10x loupe. Areas of encrustation and various scratches to stone. Reddish pigment visible in several hieroglyphs. Various tool marks present on edges. With Sotheby's tag. Overall in fine and attractive condition. See additional images.

Mr. Coley joined the Antiquities department in 2021 after working as Managing Director in the Ancient Art department at Colnaghi, the world’s oldest commercial art gallery, where he helped to establish the Ancient Art department and launched Colnaghi New York in 2017. Prior to Colnaghi, Mr. Coley was in the Greek and Roman Art department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mr. Coley holds a B.A. from the University of Miami and an M.A. in Art Market from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and he earned an art-appraisal certificate from New York University.
