This relief depicts a kneeling figure facing right. The figure is shown with raised hands in a pose of praise, wearing a kilt and broad collar, with a smooth-shaven head—typical of relief work from the reign of Akhenaten. The carved hieroglyphic inscription contains six columns, although some are worn and fragmentary. The right column features the word "life," possibly indicating "repeating life." The left column mentions "Ennead" and "Amun."

Inspected under UV light and 10x loupe. Heavily weathered surface with various areas of encrustation. Modern infill present, particularly in proper bottom left. Traces of red pigment present in columns and other crevices and various other deposits. Metal rods from a former stand protrude from the relief. Dimensions excluding rods 16 x 18 1/2 inches (40.64 x 46.99 cm). Overall in fine and attractive condition. See additional images.

Mr. Coley joined the Antiquities department in 2021 after working as Managing Director in the Ancient Art department at Colnaghi, the world’s oldest commercial art gallery, where he helped to establish the Ancient Art department and launched Colnaghi New York in 2017. Prior to Colnaghi, Mr. Coley was in the Greek and Roman Art department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mr. Coley holds a B.A. from the University of Miami and an M.A. in Art Market from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and he earned an art-appraisal certificate from New York University.
