Appearing in overall good, stable, and ready to place condition. Has been re-varnished. The canvas has some slack on the stretcher and there is visible rippling to the upper corners. There is a scuff in the paint in the lower left corner. Overpainting above feathered hat, to the right of the sitter's face, at the bottom of the cape, and the lower right corner, possibly covering a signature. Small scattered instances of craquelure.
