Ms. Vogelpohl joined the firm in 2013 as a cataloger in the American and European Furniture and Decorative Arts department. She became a department specialist in 2017, focusing on American decorative arts and silver. She received a BA from the College of Charleston and an MLITT in Art History from the University of Glasgow.

As Treichler notes, this piece was likely made on contract for Berry who established a general store in the settlement of Brittain, now Akron, Ohio in 1869. By 1880, Berry was listed as a grocer in U.S. Federal Census returns, and he likely used this and similar crocks to advertise his business. Treichler speculates that these crocks were made by the Colvin family who were Berry's immediate neighbors.
