The painting appears in overall fairly good, stable, and ready to hang condition. The canvas is slightly loose on the stretcher. The back of the canvas is waxed likely to stabilize and flatten the paint surface. The paint surface has a fairly even pattern of craquelure throughout consistent with age. There are scattered scuffs to the paint surface, most visible in the lower right quadrant. The painting has a few discolored spots of surface deposit, not immediately noticeable. There are small areas of loss and wear to the paint surface around the edges from past contact with the frame and stretcher impressions in the canvas, visible in raking light, probably from past framing. Scattered instances of over-painting and touch-up to the paint surface. Some areas of touch-up to the figures are visible to the naked eye while some touch-up to the background is visible only under UV light. Much of the paint surface has a matte appearance, some of the visible areas of touch-up have a glossy appearance. Additional images are available.
