.52 caliber. 22" barrel length. SN: C9336. Blued metal finish with flat wrist walnut stock mounting a saddle ring and bar with a half length forend secured by a single barrel band. Single shot breechloading percussion rifle featuring a straight breech design. Carbine rear leaf sight graduated to 800 yards. The right lockplate is marked C. SHARPS' PAT./OCT. 5TH 1852. above the trigger with R.S. LAWRENCE PAT./APRIL 12TH 1859. The top of the barrel is marked NEW MODEL 1863 behind the rear sight and SHARPS RIFLE/MANUFG. CO./HARTFORD CONN. forward of the sight. Rear sight consists of the standard carbine rear leaf graduated to 800 yards with the spring marked R.S. LAWRENCE/PATENTED/FEB. 15TH 1859. The rear breechblock has been struck with patent marks split by the lever channel reading R.S. LAWRENCE/PATENT./DEC. 20. 1859./H. CONANT./PATENT. APR. 1ST 1856. The left receiver is marked C. SHARPS PAT/SEPT. 12TH 1848. The left barrel flat shows an EAW inspector stamp with TWR mark of Thomas W. Russell on the saddle bar mount. There are two weak cartouches to the left stock surrounding the saddle bar. The balance of parts display W, N, H, and U sub-inspector markings. The barrel serial number matches the tang.
Very Good as refinished. Bore is Bright with sharp rifling throughout. The overall metal finish is thinning with flaked losses overall above some light dings and mars. There are some flecks of light pitting on the upper right frame. The left side of the saddle bar has been worn down with some brown patina forming. The left receiver has some losses likely from an old repair on the receiver. The stock has scattered mars and handling wear overall. The action is functional.
