.44-40. 4" barrel length. SN: 122397. Color casehardened frame and hammer with blued small parts, niter blued screws, and varnished walnut grips. Single-action loading gate revolver with six-shot cylinder and utilizing the early pattern of screw retained cylinder pin frame. The short black powder rifled barrel mounts to the appropriate frame with no mounting socket for the ejector rod housing. The left barrel has a reapplied etched panel reading COLT . FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER with the top of the barrel displaying the two-line address mark COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. The left frame shows the three-line three patent marking without Rampant Colt logo, and the left triggerguard shows the 44 CF caliber marking. A C initial has been struck into the hammer recess. Further marks include the assembly number 5744 to the loading gate. Item comes with a Colt Factory letter affirming that it left the factory on April 16, 1890 bound for the E.C. Meacham Arms Company of St. Louis, Missouri. The letter affirms that the revolver left the factory as a four inch barrel length model.
Very Fine as Restored. Bore is Very Bright with sharp rifling throughout. There is a shallow dent filled with blue at the front end of one chamber. The metal refinish shows few scattered light scratches. One cylinder flute has an abrasion at the rear edge of the flute. There are some signs of brown patina forming in the rear chambers. The cylinder pin screw head shows some faint loss of finish. Grips show some light mars along the lower edges of the butt and a small dent in the left stock just behind the frame. The action times and indexes correctly.
