40 volumes (of 53, lacking 13 volumes (see Condition Note)), 8vo (168 x 102 mm or smaller). Engraved frontispieces. (Slight toning and spotting.) Early 20th-century red crushed levant gilt, spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered in 3, gilt-ruled in all, top edges gilt, others uncut, STAMP-SIGNED BY ROWFANT BINDERY (some minor wear).
"Aldine edition" of the poetical works of 16 British authors, including Samuel Butler, Geoffrey Chaucer, John Dryden, Alexander Pope, Edmund Spenser, and Sir Thomas Wyatt.
Please note that this set is lacking 13 volumes, comprising: James Beattle; Charles Churchill, 3 vols.; William Collins; William Falconer; Oliver Goldsmith; Henry Kirke White; Jonathan Swift, 3 vols.; Edward Young, 2 vols. (LW 6/7/23)
