Contemporary marbled calf, red morocco lettering-piece gilt (front cover detached, rear joints starting, some wear). Provenance: W.F. Charters (bookplate); Butler University Library Indianapolis (embossed stamp to H[1], shelf marks).

FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Originally published in French in 1790, Fleurieu’s work showcases the author’s desire to defend French claims to the “discoveries” of the islands near New Guinea. Cox II, p. 304; Ferguson I: 105.

Sam has an interest in 20th century design, pottery, early advertising, historic Americana and antique firearms. He is a licensed auctioneer in three states and is a featured appraiser on The Antiques Roadshow.
