A Set of Six Queen Anne Pierce Carved Mahogany Stretcher Base and Trifid Foot Side Chairs

New England, Circa 1760

chair frames marked III, IIII, V, VI, VII and XI with respective slip seats.
Height 39 x width 21 1/2 x depth 17 inches.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.

In overall stable and usable condition. Retaining traces of a dark, historic patina in areas, though other areas show refinishing. Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use.
Chair III - Later corner blocks to seat rails and slip seat. Old age cracks to the splat, one with an old repair visible from the rear of the chair, though now loose.
Chair IIII - The most in tact of the set. Old age cracks to the splat, but in tact and structurally sound.
Chair V - Later corner blocks to seat rails. The splat has been restored, as it appears that the exterior scroll work on either side of the splat does not conform with the shape of the other splats (this appears to be an early repair). The side seat rails were also likely detached from the rear stiles and restored and are now structurally sound.
Chair VI - Lacking one of the front corner blocks, but retaining one of the original. The rear seat rail and side rails have been reinforced to the stiles using newer dowel pegs, similar to chair V. Old repaired age cracks to the splat with visible bowtie joints to the back.
Chair VII - Corner blocks replaced. The side seat rails were also likely detached from the rear stiles and restored and are now structurally sound. Age cracks visible to the splat with associated regluing. Proper front right knee return is lost.
Chair XI - Age cracks to the splat that have been reglued, one crack showing a bowtie joint to the reverse of the splat. Later corner blocks added.
