The clavicytherium needs conservation and repair before it can be played. Although it stood on its own in the consignor's home before it was moved to the auction facility, Two of the legs are loose and the base needs repair for stability. It was photographed with the clavicytherium and base separate; the two sections have been digitally combined for the image shown. The keys do not strike and return; many of the strings are loose or broken. There are several cracks visible in the sound board. The aperture of the rectangular cover door is open; it probably originally had pleated silk, possibly inset behind a metal grille. There are areas of discoloration, cracked or chipped veneer, and other surface wear consistent with age. 

Condition reports are available upon request. All lots are sold “as is,” in the condition they are in at the time of the auction. Prospective buyers are responsible for inspecting a lot or sending their agent or conservator to inspect the lot on their behalf, and for ensuring that they have requested, received and understood any condition report provided by Freeman's.
