[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] -- [MILITARIA]. Daguerreotype portrait of a French soldier. April 1870.
Oversized sixth plate portrait of a standing French officer in uniform, holding what appears to be his bicorn hat in one arm and wearing what appears to be a French Legion of Honor medal on his jacket. (Heavy tarnishing throughout, with wiping and scratching to plate surface; unexamined out of frame.) Housed in a passe-partout mount and framed to 7 3/8 x 8 3/8 in. Deteriorating paper back of frame bears ink inscription in French, dated 2 April 1870, possibly identifying subject with last name "Hauchecorne."
