[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 3 items involving Colonel Elmer Ellsworth, highlighted by gem tintype.

1 1/4 in. gem tintype of Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth, housed in thermoplastic case with scroll design (some surface scratches to edges of plate, mainly near top left corner; chipping to case). Ellsworth was Commander of the 11th New York Volunteer Infantry (The “Fire Zouaves”). He was the first Union officer to be killed in the Civil War on 24 May 1861 in Alexandria, Virginia.

[With:] 2 original unused patriotic covers, 5 1/2 x 3 in., one depicting the death of Colonel Ellsworth, the other with slogan “Fight On, Remember Ellsworth" (some soiling, corner/edge wear to covers).
